Bolingbrook
Kids Care Club is a Points of Light Foundation sponsored
program. Our mission is to develop compassion and the
spirit of service and philanthropy in elementary thru
high school aged youth. To that end, we provide young
people with hands-on volunteer opportunities to help others
in local and global communities. Kids Care Clubs believes
that children and young adults are empowered by their
contribution to the world around them. |

OCTOBER
2006 -" HANDS HELPING HANDS"
OVERVIEW
PLEASE
CLICK HERE FOR A FULL DESCRIPTION OF THIS PROGRAM [PDF].
"'Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, Be it
ever so humble there's no place like home! A charm from
the sky seems to hallow us there, Which seek through the
world, is ne'er met with elsewhere.
Home! Home! Sweet, sweet home!
There's no place like home!
There's no place like home!"
- John Howard Payne (1791-1852)
Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz repeats the words of John
Howard Payne over and over, "There's no place like
home!" Noah Webster says it is "the abiding
place of one's affections; as the home is where the heart
is." We think of home as more than shelter; it is
a special place for our families and a refuge.
Our spirits are lifted when we are in a clean and pleasing
environment. For families who have had the experience
of moving from a substandard house to their own house,
where the roof doesn't leak, and the wind doesn't rattle
through the walls, their family life improves and their
lives take on new meaning.
Our club will help clean up, spruce up, or even build
a hom e for someone who can't do it on his or her own.
Kids in middle school and High School of all ages can
participate in some part of this Kids Care Club project,
Home Sweet Home.

SEPTEMBER
2006 - "FALL FRIENDS"
OVERVIEW:
Fall is full of things to do, smell and see. But sometimes
the elderly in our community can't get outdoors to enjoy
the beautiful colors of nature. We will be bringing the
fun to them by baking loaves of Kids Care Pumpkin Bread
and delivering them with a fall foliage sun-catcher. (For
elderly or handicapped and shut-in neighbors) |

Service
is a natural way for young people to assert their positive
qualities. By serving others, kids establish connections
with human beings of diverse cultures and economic situations.
Beyond citizenship, kids develop positive self-esteem
and learn many life lessons including tolerance, problem
solving, cooperation, confidence, and respect for life
and loyalty. As a result, they are less likely to follow
the path of violence, racism, or indifference.
Empowered children grow into empowered adults who make
service and philanthropy a part of their everyday life.

or becoming a volunteer, please contact Bolingbrook Chapter
